Our Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 5+ is produced by bees collecting nectar from the native Mānuka plant, a scrubby tree that is abundant across New Zealand and is well known for its medicinal antibacterial qualities. These unique properties have led Wild Mānuka Honey to be one of the most researched honeys in the world. The small white flowers of the Mānuka tree bloom during spring and summer in New Zealand and this is the time of year when the bees collect the nectar and produce the honey.
New Zealand Honey Co. Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 5+ is a complex honey with a herbaceous flavour that has undertones of caramel, with a clean fresh finish and a slightly bitter taste. This honey has a smooth, pleasant texture; very thick, chewy and almost fudge-like in consistency. The honey can range from being a dark cream in colour to a dark brown, and anything in between.
Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 5+ is world renowned for having unique health benefits. It is high in antioxidant activity and has unique non peroxide activity which isn’t found in any other variety of honey. It is effective against a wide range of harmful bacteria and has been shown to be beneficial to your digestive health. Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 5+ contains more vitamins, minerals and amino acids than other types of honey. The higher the UMF grade, the better the health benefits.
Our Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 5+ is great as a spread on nutty breads and adds a rich complexity to savoury sauces and marinades. Wild Mānuka Honey can also be eaten straight off the spoon or added to drinks to help alleviate sore throats and coughs. Add this honey to a smoothie for a healthy sweetener, or drizzle over your yoghurt and muesli.
ABOUT UMF™ & MGO
What is UMF™?
UMF™ (Unique Mānuka Factor) is a highly-respected grading system that guarantees you genuine, unadulterated natural Mānuka Honey. All our Mānuka Honey is tested by an independent third party and, at a minimum, meet the standards set by the UMF Association and the New Zealand Government.
Understanding UMF™ vs MGO vs K-Factor:
UMF™ is the highest testing standard for any honey worldwide. UMF testing measures these key elements - Leptosperin, DHA, HMFand Methylglyoxal (MGO) which all mark a high-quality Mānuka Honey.
MGO measures Methylglyoxal (MG) but notLeptosperin which classifies genuine Manuka honey.
K-Factor focuses on the pollen count of the honey and does not measure the antibacterial strength of the Mānuka honey.
New Zealand Honey Co. is a member of the UMF™ Association and all our honey is tested and measured to the UMF grading standard.
