Our Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 15+ is produced by bees collecting nectar from the native Mānuka plant, a scrubby tree that is abundant across New Zealand and is well known for its medicinal antibacterial qualities. These unique properties have led Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 15+ to be one of the most researched honeys in the world. The small white flowers of the Mānuka tree bloom during spring and summer in New Zealand and this is the time of year when the bees collect the nectar and produce the honey.

New Zealand Honey Co. Wild Mānuka Honey UMF 15+ is a complex honey with a herbaceous flavour that has undertones of caramel, with a clean fresh finish and a moderately bitter taste. This honey has a very smooth, pleasant texture; thick, almost chewy and fudge-like in consistency. The honey can range from being a dark cream in colour to a dark brown, and anything in between.

Understanding UMF vs MGO vs K-Factor:

  • UMF is one of the highest testing standards for any honey worldwide. UMF testing measures three key elements - Leptosperin, DHA and Methylglyoxal (MGO) which all mark a high-quality Mānuka Honey.
  • MGO only measures one of these markers, Methylglyoxal (MG).
  • K-Factor only measures the pollen count of the honey and does not measure the antibacterial strength of the Mānuka honey.
